Research associate
Wolfang Quaisser studied agronomy and political science at Justus-Liebig University in Giessen. Having graduated, he took part in a research project at the Faculty of Economics of Goethe University in Frankfurt as a research associate, comparing economic systems under socialism. At the same time he worked on a doctorate in agricultural economics. In 1987 he became a member of the Department of Economics at the Institute for East European Studies. His research was focused on economic transformation and EU integration of Central and Eastern European countries. In 1990 he did one year of research in the USA as a scholarship holder of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Moreover, as an "Associate Professor for Ecomics" at Portland State University (Oregon) he gave lectures on "Comparative Economic Systems and International Economics". Since 1991 he has been a research associate at the Institute for East European Studies. Since 2005 he has given lectures at the Akademie für Politische Bildung in Tutzing, on economic policy and social policy. Furthermore, he has received a professorship at the Hochschule für Politik (German University of poltics) where he gives lectures on the comparison of economic systems. Concerning teaching and research, Dr Quaisser places a particular emphasis on issues of location regarding the German economy in the context of the EU enlargement and globalisation, as well as problems regarding the deepening and the expansion of the EU.
