Guidelines for Authors 

Articles
Submission:

  1. Manuscripts are preferred as e-mail attachments to jahrbuecherclearclearclearclearclearosteuropa-institutclearclearde written one of the most widespread MS Windows text procession programs. CD ROMs or DVDs are welcomed as well. Traditional disks may prove unreadable.
  2. Articles must be provided with a substantial summary of about 20-30 lines.
  3. Brief information of the author is needed comprising name, academic title, academic position, working or private address, optionally e-mail.

Formatting:

  1. When writing your manuscript please use the file JGO-empty.doc. You can import your ready text into this file but may have to reset formatting using Ctrl+Space. Markups are deleted in this case. For the same reason please do not create new styles.
  2. Give references as footnotes.
  3. Make emphasis by means of italics, not CAPITALS or bold text.
  4. Put names of authors in small caps or leave without formatting, but no capitals.
  5. Use the templates resp. style-sheets of your text processing software adjusting them to your needs but avoid direct formatting (besides emphasising and small caps for authors as indicated above) and creating new templates. This helps us to convert the text into our own layout.
  6. Use tables instead of tabs.

References:
1. A list of Works cited resp. a Bibliography and a list of Abbreviations is needed at the end of the text.
2. Citations of books and articles in footnotes consist of short titles:

Citations of books:
Rokot Kniaz' Russkoi Ameriki, p. 341 (author‛s name if possible in small caps)
Black Russians in Alaska, p. 286-287 (author‛s name if possible in small caps)

Citations of articles:
Luehrmann Russian Colonialism, p. 851-871 (author‛s name if possible in small caps)
Vinkovetsky The Russian American Company, p. 161-176 (author‛s name if possible in small caps)

3. Citation of archive documents: Archive (abbreviation if possible), fund: Name of document (as given in the Repertory or on the document itself):
GARF, f. 5, op. 30, d. 475, l. 47

4. In the List of Works Cited / Bibliography at the end of the text, these titles would appear in the following way (author‛s name if possible in small caps):

5. Do not use Ibidem, Idem etc.

Transliteration
In English-language articles Cyrillic characters are transliterated either according to the scientific transliteration (preferred) or following one of the English styles, both as given in this table (pdf). In longer citations, especially from older sources, Cyrillic characters in UNICODE standard may be used, but not for literature titles.

1. Please keep within the prescribed length.
