Library - Projects
ViFaOst
The library has continued to participate in the DFG project "Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Osteuropa" (ViFaOst).
In cooperation with the Department of History, the directory "Verzeichnis der in Vorbereitung befindlichen Universitätsschriften zur Geschichte Ost- und Südosteuropas" is published annually. Not only in Germany it is an appreciated information medium on coordinating the allocation of topics for academic publications in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It has been published in the "Notifications OEI" series since 1995. As a part of ViFaOst (category "Literaturdienst") it is now also available on the Internet.
Literature database
In order to analyse the library's serials stock and record the Department of History's literature for the International Bibliography of Pre Petrine Russia (IBPPR), an integrated literature database has been set up. It contains approximately 30,000 entries. The titles are indexed by subject headings and a rough DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) system. Due to the synergies generated by cooperating with the Department of History, the number of serials regularly and completely analysed has risen to 129. Additionally, there are 132 serials which are suitable to a limited extent.
Essays
The library's essays are to be made retrievable both locally and via the Internet (information on location and position, too) soon.
Cooperation
The library is participating in the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Münchner Osteuropabibliotheken" (working group of Munich-based libraries on East Europe), which was founded in December 2001. The working group aims at intensifying the cooperation between Munich-based libraries on East Europe. Moreover, a joint public relations work is to be conducted. In the context of "Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Osteuropa", the working group has created a common Internet presence that gives information on the libraries, their stocks and their regulations.
Conference
Since 1969 the library of the Institute for East European Studies has been organising an annual conference that comprises Munich-based libraries on East Europe and South East Europe. The conference is taking place at the Carl Friedrich von Siemens. For some years now, libraries specialising in different fields have been taking part, as well. The issues discussed at the conference include questions on computing, coordination of the libraries' work, and current reports on library projects.
