OEI-Database for Economic and Social Models of Eastern Europe

Introduction
With the database for Economic and Social Models, the OEI provides for an additional service. The database contains systematic information on important indicators for Economic and Social Models of Eastern European countries and is compiled within the context of the main research area "Social Models in International Comparison".

Research area of Economic and Social Models
The goal of research of the Economic and Social Models is: comparatively analyse, within the European context, the economic and social position and "competitiveness" of new EU member states; development possibilities in areas of conflict concerning competitiveness; and outlining European approach strategies (Keyword: Flexicurity). The central scope of focus of the Economic and Social Models concerns the actual influence of growth and employment developments: the institutional arrangement of the employment market as well as the arrangement of social coherence and distributive justice.

Scope of data
The database contains several indicators, covering the period from 1995 onwards, that are combined from eight different fields (economic and social indicators, population, employment, social inclusion, labour market institutions, public finance, education and innovation, governance). The country catalogue encompasses the ten new EU member states (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania), the Western Balkan countries (Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania), as well as successor states of the Former Soviet Union (Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan).

Data source and comparability
The data are composed of and supported by databases from international organisations, information from the respective individual countries' authorities and other national sources. Due to the use of diverse sources, there can be diverging information in other publications by the OEI. As usual in cross-country data, the definitions of indicators can differ between the individual countries, so that comparability is limited. Users should bear in mind the explanatory notes to the data.
