Library of Institute for Eastern European Studies The library of the Institute for Eastern European Studies is one of Europe's most comprehensive research libraries on Eastern European history, economy, politics, and society. From a geographical point of view, the library is focused on the states of the Former Soviet Union and Central Eastern Europe. The present collection consists of approximately 174,000 items, among them there are about 590 current serials. Dual role The library of the Institute for Eastern European Studies has a dual role. On the one hand, it provides the professional literature that is needed by the research staff. On the other hand, it is open to the public, offering a wide range of possibilities to everybody. Collection The present collection (about 174,000 items) is made up of publications on history, economy, political science, social science, regional studies, law, philosophy, art history, cultural history, history of literature, and church history. Focus Correspondent to the departments of the Institute for Eastern European Studies, the library is focused on the fields of economy and history. From a geographical point of view, the library is focused on the states of the Former Soviet Union, especially Russia, the Ukraine, and Central Asia, as well as the new EU states in Central Eastern Europe. Online Some parts of the library's collection can be accessed via the Internet: - Monographs and serials published as of 1990 can be accessed via the Regensburger Katalog (OPAC) or via Biblioktheksverbund Bayern (Gateway Bayern) - Essays from 129 scientific serials on history, economics, politics, law, social sciences, and Slavonic studies can be accessed via Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Osteuropa (ViFaOst). They can be found at the Aufsatzdatenbank Osteuropa section, category "Geschichte". The library's older collection is listed in the alphabetic card index as well as in numerous subject catalogues and special catalogues. More and more parts of the collection are being made accessible via the Internet. Services We are offering a number of services: information, help on research, handling of outside visitors' enquiries, e.g. compiling literature lists on special topics, and a photocopy service. Reference library The library of the Institute for Eastern European Studies is a reference library. However, borrowing over the weekend is possible. Inter-library loans according to the inter-library loan services (Sigel: M 357) (library code: M357) are possible, as well. |
